GLP-1–based medicines

Understand your medication options.

FDA-approved products exist

Semaglutide

A GLP-1 receptor agonist that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. Semaglutide products (for example, Ozempic and Wegovy) have different indications: Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management in eligible patients, while Ozempic is used for type 2 diabetes and certain related cardiovascular and kidney-risk indications. The exact product and your medical history matter.

FDA-approved products exist

Tirzepatide

Acts on GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Approved products include Zepbound for chronic weight management in eligible patients and for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Mounjaro is used for type 2 diabetes. Treatment selection requires an individualized assessment.

Research update: what about retatrutide?Investigational · education only

Retatrutide

Retatrutide is an investigational triple agonist targeting GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon receptors. It is not FDA approved. Phase 3 results show substantial potential for weight management.

TRIUMPH-1: the published highlights

In an 80-week randomized trial of 2,339 adults with obesity without diabetes, average weight reductions were 17.6%, 23.7%, and 25.0% across the three retatrutide groups, compared with 3.9% with placebo. These results include participants regardless of whether they stayed on treatment.

These are group averages, not a prediction of any individual’s result. The study also reported improvements in knee-osteoarthritis pain and sleep-apnea severity in the relevant participant subgroups.

How well was it tolerated?

Gastrointestinal side effects were common. Lilly reported nausea in 28.6–42.4% of participants taking retatrutide versus 14.8% with placebo; diarrhea in 25.2–34.1% versus 13.5%; and vomiting in 10.6–25.3% versus 4.8%. Treatment discontinuation due to adverse events ranged from 4.1–11.3%, compared with 4.9% with placebo. Tolerability varied by dose.

Ongoing research is examining longer-term cardiovascular and kidney outcomes and other obesity-related conditions. Trial findings should be considered alongside each person’s health history and the full safety data.

Benefits need to be weighed against risks.

Semaglutide and tirzepatide can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort. Important risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, and dehydration-related kidney injury. Their labels carry boxed warnings about thyroid C-cell tumors observed in rodents; human risk is unknown. They are contraindicated with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2.

Pregnancy plans, other medicines, and relevant medical conditions require review. This is a brief overview, not the full prescribing information. Results vary, and a prescription is not guaranteed.

A team in your corner, beyond day one.

We’ll check in on your progress, how you’re feeling, nutrition, and any medication side effects. Your plan can evolve as your needs change. Keep us informed about new symptoms, other medicines, or pregnancy plans, and review any treatment changes with your prescriber.

Are these medications included in concierge membership?

Not automatically. Ask about the medication, visits, monitoring tests, and any discounts before treatment. Covered services may be billed to insurance, and medication coverage depends on your plan.

How is this different from experimental peptide blends?

FDA-approved products have defined indications and prescribing information. Nonstandard blends and investigational compounds do not have the same evidence or approval status. Our separate peptide-education page explains those distinctions.
